Barriers in Education of Mothers on Parental Leave
Krmenčíková, Eva ; Dvořáková, Miroslava (advisor) ; Záškodná, Helena (referee)
This Bachelor's thesis focuses on barriers in further education of mothers on parental leave. It aims to find what the specifics of these barriers are, as compared to the wider adult population. Mothers on parental leave are considered a specific group in the job market as well as in the field of education; therefore they need to be given special attention. The first part of the thesis defines further professional education as a part of lifelong education and introduces the surveys representing the base for my own survey, and also introduces some of the factors that influence the perceived barriers in education of mothers on parental leave. The detection of barriers in further education of mothers on parental leave was carried out in a quantitative survey. The results of this survey were then compared to the results of the surveys described in the previous chapters. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Measuring the Effect of the Timing of First Birth on Mothers' Wages in the Czech Republic
Hummelová, Magdalena ; Pertold-Gebicka, Barbara (advisor) ; Špolcová, Dominika (referee)
Measuring the Effect of the Timing of First Birth on Mothers' Wages in the Czech Republic Magdalena Hummelová December 31, 2018 Abstract This thesis investigates the effect of fertility timing on women's long- run wages. Following the work of Herr (2016), by considering fertility timing in terms of labour market experience at the first birth, we study the effect on wages observed in the window 15 to 20 years after the labour market entry. This allows us to build different models for two groups of mothers: those entering the labour force with and without a child. We come to the conclusion that there is no effect of fertility timing for women entering the labour force already having a child. For women entering the labour force childless, the estimated postponement effect differs depending on whether they have an earning partner or not. If they do, there is clear cost of fertility delay by one more year (contrary to expectations) associated with a decrease in wages by 1%. This finding is very likely connected to a trend of lengthy parental leaves in the Czech Republic. If a woman does not have a partner, we observe an insignificant effect of first birth delay, yet positive. Comparing the results for women living in versus out of Prague, we see no significant difference in the effects.
The development of public policies in relation to single mothers from 1989 to 2015 in the Czech Republic
Jeřábková, Anna ; Hejzlarová, Eva (advisor) ; Štěpánková Štýbrová, Martina (referee)
This paper is focused on the development of public policy in relation to single mothers from 1989 to 2015. Specifically, it focuses on the legislative documents, which are related directly to single mothers, which legislative documents are affecting them, how they deal with their situation and what benefits they bring to them. The paper also describes the evolution of these documents over time, specifically from 1989 to 2015. It concerns also the legislation which was accepted or cancelled and the whole background of these documents origin. The core of the empirical part is analysis of legislative documents affecting single mothers and their families and analysis of stenographic records of Parliament's meetings. The outlined development is explained in the context of theory of social constructions of target populations, depoliticization theory and path dependence theory. The aim of this paper is to find out how the situation of single mothers has developed since 1989 and whether it is improving or getting worse. The assumption is there has been a transformation since 1989, from socialist greater protection on the labor market and greater social support to extinction of single mothers as a specific target group of social policy.

Experimental Investigation of Discrimination of Mothers in the Labor Market
Kočová, Alžběta ; Pertold-Gebicka, Barbara (advisor) ; Víšek, Jan Ámos (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to determine the degree of discrimination of mothers in the Czech labor market during employee selection. We conduct an Internet field experiment which allows us to study the effect of the different lengths of parental leave on the probability of being invited for a job interview. We test three years long parental leave, a typical length in the Czech environment, against two years long parental leave as the shortest usual length, using a mother long after parental leave as our third control group. We found a slight preference for the three years parental leave, but we cannot confirm the hypothesis of three years leave being significantly preferred to two years leave at conventional confidence levels. The most significant is the result where resume of high-quality was sent. The results about the role of social norms from a survey among hiring specialists indicate that from two opposing effects - losing knowledge and working experience the longer a mother is on parental leave, versus losing flexibility at work the younger her child is - none is of higher concern if comparing three years leave and two years leave. Growing up and adulthood in the Czech Republic (Emerging adulthood through the eyes of emerging adults and their mothers)
Marčíková, Tereza ; Soukup, Václav (advisor) ; Ferrarová, Eva (referee) ; Hnilica, Karel (referee)
The presented dissertation focuses on the process of transition into adulthood through the eyes of young people and the eyes of their mothers. The research study is based on the theory of J.J. Arnett, who identified a new development period "emerging adulthood" [Arnett, 1998]. We use three different perspectives to look at the process of transition into the adulthood: Developmental psychological, sociological and cultural-anthropological. Description of each period associated with the transition to adulthood is extended by the context of a family in which a young person is raised, and by a culture in which the person grows. By introducting these three perspectives in the first part we are creating a theoretical framework for the empirical part of our work. In the empirical part the qualitative study is presented. As the research method semistructured in-depth interview with young Czechs and their mothers was used. Our goal was to understand the perception of the notion of adulthood by young people aged 18 to 30 years and the way they describe their own process of transition into the adulthood. We wanted to determine whether young Czechs show signs of "emerging adulthood." We were also interested in how the relationship between a mother and her offspring, the upbringing, and the cultural context influence...
